So I'm watching Castle, which I continue to love this season, and it occurs to me that everyone on TV/movies always has incredible Halloween costumes (OMG Browncoat!). Where do these supposedly ordinary people find them? I've never seen any that nice in real life. Except on people who can sew. :)

G and I just watched the season premiere of House. Amazing.
The last couple of seasons I've only been watching off and on because the show can sometimes be meh, but I won't stop watching because I can't stop watching Hugh Laurie. (Much the same reason I can't stop watching Lie to Me). But this episode was pretty intense, and so well written. Especially for a two hour show--consistently good and gripping the whole time. Yay! And a pretty awesome guest star, too!
And then Castle! Also very good. *knock on wood for a continuation of this--no sophomore slump!*
Let all my series premieres continue this trend *selectively forgets the Bones premiere*

Bloody 85 (30C) degrees at 8 in the morning. And it's supposed to get up to at least 100 (38C) today. Never have I regretted our lack of AC more.
What the hell, Oregon?

*hugs BBC America tightly* They finally showed The Next Doctor on Saturday, and during the show, there was a preview of Torchwood "Children of Earth," that is going to be shown in a few weeks. And, I think, there is going to be some other Doctor Who show in July as well. Yay BBCA!

Insomnia sucks.
So, I finally broke down and bought the second season of Torchwood. I was actually going in to buy the first season, but of course they were out. But still, yay 40 percent off coupon! I don't know where the heck they get off charging 80 dollars for 13 episodes. I haven't explored the extra content, but I doubt it's THAT exciting.
I still say that Season 2 was better than Season 1, although I'd forgotten how depressing it got this season. They finally make Tosh and Owen seem like real people and then...well, anyway. Also, after completely ignoring the Jack/Gwen connection after the first couple episodes in season one, I think they went a bit far in the opposite direction this season. But GOD it was lovely to watch Kiss Kiss Bang Bang again.
So when is Season 3 supposed to air, dammit?!

I'm sure I'm the last to know this, but:
Castle has been renewed for a second season! Go Nathan Fillion! I knew you could get a series that will last more than 14 eps! And all of them aired, even. Just keep away from FOX, and you're good.
and
Dollhouse has been renewed. Um, okay. Considering the uneven quality of Buffy's first (half) season, I guess I'm willing to give this one a little more time. But still, it is a bit surprising.

I've given in and decided that I do want Torchwood seasons one and two, dispite the things that disappointed me so about them. I just wish they weren't so bloody expensive.

So I finally watched Australia. Oh dear. He's It's beautiful to look at, but the plot is...well a BIT contrived. I did learn a lot about Australian history that I didn't know, like about the bombing of Darwin and the Stolen Generation.
But I do know the REAL purpose behind this movie - so Hugh Jackman could be filmed in ( this scene )
(man, that scene was so hokey I ALMOST couldn't enjoy it. :) )
Here's hoping Wolverine: Origins will have better plot development. ;)

Don't get me wrong, it's great to be working again, even if it's just for a couple of months, but after two weeks of getting up at 5 and driving an hour each way to work, I am TIRED. So tired. I get home, eat dinner, and just CRASH. I don't even watch TV. I read and then I sleep. And tape everything I watch for the weekend.
Speaking of which, Castle is starting to grow on me. I love the relationship he has with his daughter, and the chemistry between Castle and the cop is slowly getting less stilted. I still think the characters are a bit cliche, but it's fun to watch now.

So today I started work on a temporary position doing GIS work for the State. Because of meetings and problems with communication between my department and the IT guys, I accomplished absolutely nothing. Yes, I am INDEED working for the state. And tomorrow, if I want to grab a free (1 hour each way) ride into work, I have to get up at 5:30. Ah well. Employment is good.
In better news, I started week two of the hundred push-ups today, and they were difficult, but not "hurting myself" difficult. I don't see myself being able to do 100 pushups at the end of this, but I think I WILL be able to do a significant amount of full body push-ups, and there will definitely more strength, which is the real point, anyway.

MY BLAZERS BEAT THE SPURS!!!
After the last game or so, it's been a given that they're going to the playoffs, but it's looking like they have a really good chance at home court advantage. YAY!

I've taken so many of these things recently that don't really match me, that I'm starting to wonder if I really see myself truly at all. :)

Inspired by
jaydeyn_sitari, I've started the One Hundred Pushups Challenge. I actually started last week, but my muscles got so sore from the first day, I couldn't do Wednesday's set until Friday. :( So I'm starting over this week. So far, it's not looking good.

I know I have said this before, but I'm so sick of clothing manufacturers making shirts for women that assume they have a B cup or less. I'm not huge by any means, only a C, but I can't buy button shirts unless they are a size too large everywhere else, most of the cute scoop or v neck shirts make me look like I'm heading for the clubs (which is NOT appropriate for work), and I'm sorry, but most "built in bra" tanks are not adequate for anyone over a B, seriously. Plus, uniboob. Now, I know that those who have less than I are always "oh, boo hoo" because they feel I'm lucky to have ANY breasts, but REALLY. When all you can wear in the summer is roomy t-shirts or tanks with your bra strap sticking out, I think that you have a legitimate cause for complaint.
I'm just sayin.
I'm just sayin.

I just occurred to me that Friday marked my three anniversary on lj. It also occurs to me that my paid account will come due next month. I really shouldn't pay for another year, considering how often I (don't) post, and how little I use the paid services. I would miss all the userpics, though. I wonder how that would work? Would they just all disappear?
While I enjoy lj, I find myself in yet another situation where I place myself amongst a bunch of people who are something I'm not. I've been the new kid amongst old cliques, the non-genius amongst geniuses, the non-archaeologist amongst archaeologists, the non-mother surrounded by mothers, a non-dancer amongst dancers and, in this case, a non-writer in a forum for writing. I'm getting kind of tired of this outsider feeling (not that anyone has made me feel that way, here, just...) in my life. What I would really love to do is find something I'm good at, and hang out with other people who like that thing, too.
If I could just figure out what it is.

I love to dance, but I can't do it very well. This has always been one of he great disappointments in my life. I've taken various classes since I was a kid, from ballet to tap to so-called "jazz" to swing, to belly dancing, and while I've enjoyed them all (except ballet), I have utterly failed to get beyond beginner level. And while in some cases part of it can be attributed to lack of practice, the real issue I've found is that I seem to lack any sort of grace. :D I can learn the moves, memorize the order, feel the music. BUT I CANNOT TRANSITION FROM ONE STEP TO THE NEXT WITH ANY SORT OF...GRACE. This has been less important in some types of dance, but with Belly Dancing, it's absolutely essential. And driving me almost as crazy as shimmies.
If I can't transition with grace, I can learn all the most awesome, sexy moves in the world, and I'll still look like a spastic marionette when I try to put them together. *sigh* Maybe I should take up Irish step dancing.

I'm a little unhappy to see Alan Tudyk in a DirectTV ad (with Charlie from The West Wing, no less). Is this a good indicator of his career? *is sad*
